Last week at the mall, I caught a lady staring at me.
And it wasn’t one of those stares that you immediately know what they mean.
It was an expressionless one, but I knew it wasn’t a blank stare; she wasn’t lost in thought, she was actually looking at me.
But what the look meant was something I really wanted to know.
Because let’s be honest, women are interesting beings.
They’re a fascinating blend of emotion, intuition, curiosity, and self-restraint.
While society often paints them as open books, full of expression and emotion, the truth is that there’s a whole private playlist playing in the background of their minds.
Especially when it comes to other men, men who are not their partner, not their brother, not their pastor. Just… other men.
This isn’t always about romantic interest or scandalous fantasies.
Sometimes, it’s random curiosity.
Other times, it’s deep admiration, silent comparison, or even harmless wonderings that she quickly tucks away like that one thought she had during a boring meeting.
But make no mistake, those thoughts exist.
And because I know that most women would rather wear high heels for 12 hours than admit them out loud, I’ve come to do the Lord’s work by letting it all out.
10 Things Women Think About Other Men But Never Say Out Loud
1. “He’ll make such a good husband and father”
Sometimes when a woman is observing a man, especially in settings where she gets to see him in his elements; maybe around loved ones, around his woman, his niece or just little kids, she pays attention to how the man behaves and somewhere in her mind, she’s thinking “Oh, he’ll make such a great husband or father.”
And no, this doesn’t always mean she wants him to father her kids or be her man.
It might just be an observation.
Maybe it’s the way he carries his niece or how he gently helps a toddler at church find his mum.
That little action can spark a soft thought in her head: “He looks like someone who’d read bedtime stories and check homework without shouting.”
Crazy thoughts right?
But that’s how women think sometimes when they see a man being so good.
For instance, she observes a man listening patiently, expressing himself maturely, or acknowledging someone’s feelings without making it weird.
Or a man who treats the cleaner with respect, notices when someone is uncomfortable in a group, or defends someone without trying to look like a hero.
In her mind, it’s mental fireworks.
He has earned a place in her mental top 5 real ones.
It may strike her more if her man doesn’t do those things.
She’s thinking “Whoever ends up with this one will have peace of mind on tap.”
But she may never say it, even if she’s single because some compliments are too sacred to cast carelessly into the wind.
So she may just smile, nod, and keep it moving, but her heart has taken note.
Again, not necessarily because she wants him, but because men like that restore her hope in humanity.
It’s not wishful thinking.
It’s just her appreciating traits society rarely celebrates out loud in men.
2. “He’s so proud and he’s not even all that”
This thought comes when a man walks into a room and behaves like it’s his personal movie premiere.
Loud entrances, dramatic gestures, talking over everyone… and she’s just there like: “Who cast this one?”
No shade, okay, maybe a little shade.
But some men carry unearned confidence like it’s their birthright.
And women? They observe but may say nothing.
Even if the man is the most beautiful creature alive, the smell of his pride will water down his importance.
Some guys have face cards that don’t decline, but their attitude? Trash.
And women notice.
She might nod and smile, but in her mind, she’s filing him under the ‘Fine for nothing’ category.
Because nothing kills attraction faster than someone who rates themselves too highly and doesn’t know when to calm down.
He thinks he’s the main character but he’s just an extra.
So while the guy is doing the most and thinking he’s leaving a good impression, the woman is looking at him and can’t believe his arrogance.
Interestingly, if it were the other way around and the man were humble, she would also notice.
3. “He smells so good”
There’s something about a well-groomed man who passes by smelling like confidence, coconut oil, and good decisions.
Smelling good is always a yes and everyone is likely to notice you but women are more likely to take note and even think about you.
Does that mean she wants the man?
Well, maybe and maybe not.
But will she think about that scent for the next 5 minutes, maybe even Google the perfume?
Yes. Yes, she will.
She might even side-eye her own man like, “What are we really doing with this bottle of body spray from 2018?”
It’s hilarious but true.
One of the simple ways to create a strong impression and make people think about you is by smelling nice.
Not to overdo it because best believe that if it’s in excess, you’re also going to be judged in her mind.
Not to mention if you’re smelling off or bad.
I’d rather not talk about that.
4. “He can be better than this”
A woman can be looking at a man intently and he’s thinking she’s admiring him, meanwhile the whole time, she’s critically analyzing his appearance and seeing how bad it is.
She’s there wondering “Who told him this haircut was okay?”
Some men step out with hairstyles that look like they fought their barber and lost.
Or it could be his shoes, the wrongest choice for the outfit he’s wearing.
Of course, she won’t say anything, especially if it’s someone else’s man.
But best believe she’s quietly rewriting his look in her mind, one fade at a time.
Maybe from a harsh point, judging him and wondering how he has no sense of fashion.
Or from a more compassionate view, thinking that if he were her man, she knows exactly what she’d help him fix.
Some women have this visionary mode where they see a man and instantly identify his potential glow-up.
They know that with a better haircut, better shoes, and confidence training, he’s going to level up a hundred times.
But he’s not her cup of tea.
So she lets the thought sit for like two seconds in her mind before resuming her conversation like nothing happened.
5. “He’s so fine”
Every woman has met that guy, maybe more than one if we’re being honest.
And he’s not necessarily a celebrity or model, but a man who’s handsome and somehow unaware of how much of a visual blessing he is.
It’s refreshing.
It’s rare.
It’s something she mentally claps for and hopefully moves on.
She may not say anything out loud either out of respect, out of wisdom or because the moment doesn’t need words, it just needs to be felt and let go.
But her eyes will feast.
And her mind will replay as many times as necessary.
6. “If I met him earlier…”
This one is usually on the minds of married women or ladies in relationships.
The funny part is that it can even be the most innocent-looking ones.
I always say thank God no one can read minds, this world would have been more chaotic than it already is.
Because even a woman who seems happily married can see a man who shows some level of emotional intelligence, kindness, or even attention, and wish she had met him before her man.
She may not be trying to toast him, but she can’t help but notice that he just gets it
A mental note is sparked in her like, “Men like this still exist? God, I see what you’re doing for others.”
But it’s just a thought.
She’s not leaving her man.
However, we can’t deny the fact that this is one of the most emotionally loaded silent musings.
But the key here is maturity and being realistic.
Many times, the woman is self-aware enough to know that this is just nostalgia mixed with curiosity, not necessarily that she’s discontent with her life.
She’s not leaving her man, she just acknowledged a possibility and moved on like a grown woman should.
7. “He reminds me of my dad… or someone I used to know.”
Hopefully it’s a good memory.
Sometimes, it’s a mannerism, a laugh, or a specific way a man holds a conversation.
It reminds her of someone from her past, maybe a mentor, an uncle, or someone she’s lost.
It’s rarely romantic.
Sometimes, soft and familiar, bringing about a moment of connection, nostalgia, or warmth that passes through her silently.
Or it could be traumatic.
Perhaps the person he reminds her of is someone who hurt her.
And she’s wondering if they just share a few similarities or if they’re completely alike.
But she’ll never mention it because how do you even explain that kind of thing?
8. He’s such an irritant
A lot of women hold not-so-nice thoughts about some men and sometimes you can’t even tell because their faces don’t give them away.
Maybe it’s a man they just met who is trying too hard to sound deep but it’s not giving.
A faux intellectual, using big words, quoting books he never read, and trying to sound like a philosopher on vibes.
Or a man who is too loud and arrogant.
It could also be that the man is always in women’s business.
Or the worst of all?
A man who flirts terribly.
Cringe pickup lines, odd jokes, and forced compliments, and she’s just there smiling awkwardly while mentally screaming.
Some men’s behaviors are just off-putting and while the woman might not say more than “oh wow”, you can bet that she’s very irritated by him.
9. “He talks too much.”
Some men always have something to say.
But that’s not the worst part.
The worst part is that they somehow never actually say anything meaningful.
A lot of vibes, little value.
And if we’re being honest, even men who are saying meaningful things, if the talk gets too much, it starts sounding like noise.
The woman might smile along in the conversation, but internally, she’s scrolling Instagram in her head.
She’s thinking that since he likes the sound of his own voice too much, he can keep going.
10. “This one definitely lies for fun.”
A lot of women can smell a lying man from a mile away.
I know that some women don’t have the skill and end up getting fooled by men.
But make no mistake, a lot of women do have the skill.
When they meet lying men, you know those men who tell stories that are just too perfect to be true?
Or give off that “I used to own 3 businesses at 19” energy?
They won’t argue, but in their head, they’ve ticked him off as a professional exaggerator or even a liar.
Sometimes the thoughts are so loud you can almost hear them in their facial expressions.
But other times, all you can see on the face is a polite smile or no expression at all.
Depending on the situation and context, you can be sure she’s thinking one of the things on this list.
Although you can get a strong guess but it’s still at its best a guess.
And I personally think it’s okay for it to remain in their minds because sometimes the things that are never said are the most interesting of all.
And we don’t always have to know what’s on other people’s minds, not every thought needs to be voiced.
