8 Things Your Husband Might Be Afraid To Tell You

Everyone views and understands things differently.

It doesn’t matter if you’re two peas in a pod from the same family or background.

We’re all wired differently and are bound to have different opinions on an issue.

We also react differently to things.

In light of that, every marriage goes through hiccups from time to time because of these differences.

Your husband may be afraid to tell you some things, mainly because he doesn’t know how you’ll react or knows that you’ll react unfavorably.

Please note that this fear applies not only to your husband but to every married man.

What are these things married men are afraid to tell their wives?

Let’s discuss them below.

8 Things Your Husband Might Be Afraid To Tell You

1. Past relationships

Things your husband might be afraid to tell you

Some time ago, I came across a Facebook post by a man seeking advice on how to restore peace in his marriage.

He said that he dated some ladies before he met his wife, and among his ex-girlfriends was a pained lady who vowed to make life miserable for him.

It appeared that he ended the relationship despite her pleas.

According to him, she said that he couldn’t jilt her and go scot-free.

Even before he met and married his wife, he admitted to receiving calls and text messages from that particular ex promising to deal with him.

Things got worse when he eventually got married as his ex managed to get his wife’s phone number and started sending her threatening messages.

He said that he was initially afraid to tell his wife about the crazy lady because he didn’t know how she would react.

He didn’t want her to leave him because of an aggrieved ex.

However, the past came back to haunt him because he was forced to explain the messages on his wife’s phone, and his relationship with the sender.

Peace and joy left his marriage ever since, as his wife became mad at him for not telling her about his previous relationships.

In her opinion, he should have told her that it was up to her to decide how well she could handle the information.

So many husbands are in the same shoes as this man who made a post on Facebook.

They don’t tell their wives about their past relationships, and most of the time, it’s not because they have anything to hide.

It’s simply because they do not know how their wives will react to such a piece of information.

2. Financial status

Things your husband might be afraid to tell you

Another thing a husband might be afraid to tell his wife is his financial status.

Everyone knows their spouse to a great extent.

A very wealthy man might act and live like an average Joe with his wife, probably because she is a spendthrift.

He knows that if she knows his real net worth, she won’t think twice before squandering his wealth.

I’m not saying that the woman is entirely bad.

She’ll have her strengths that make her unique and attracted her husband to her.

It could be that being extravagant is one of her weaknesses, which he has figured out how to control by not telling her about his real net worth.

On the other hand, a man who was once wealthy and encountered some financial setbacks might not tell his wife about his new financial status.

He might be afraid that he’ll lose the respect, love, peace, and loyalty that he enjoys from her when she finds out that the money is no longer coming in like before.

3. Family history

Things your husband might be afraid to tell you

Some men might be afraid to share their family history with their wives.

The Igbos (an ethnic group in the southeastern part of Nigeria) have a system of enquiring about family history whenever a marriage is about to take place.

I come from that area, and both the families of the intending bride and groom make thorough findings about who their son or daughter is going to marry.

The marriage goes ahead if both families are satisfied with their findings

However, this system is not obtainable in all parts of the world.

So, some men will likely keep their family history from their wives, especially if it contains unsavory details.

For instance, if the men in his family are known to be violent towards their wives, or they may have a history of madness at a certain age in their lineage.

Other pieces of information about a man’s family that can make him afraid to share his family history with his wife include having a history of ailments such as blindness, diabetes (leading to amputation), stealing, waywardness, and unfaithfulness to spouses, among others.

4. Job loss

Things your husband might be afraid to tell you

Job loss is one of the things your husband might be afraid to tell you about.

This is especially true if he’s the sole provider for the family.

Even if you also provide for the family and support his input, losing his job is not a welcome development.

Losing a job without an immediate replacement always spells disaster for the person(s) at the receiving end.

He might feel reluctant and be afraid to tell you that he lost his job because he knows that such news will negatively affect your relationship and marriage.

It takes bravery to open up on such a sensitive issue, as there’s no easy way to relay such bad news.

If he’s the sole provider, your family is about to be launched into poverty and lack.

You’ll have to cut down hugely on expenses and manage your resources painstakingly to keep the family afloat if you have a source of income.

Instead of telling you about it, he’ll prefer to prepare every morning and go out searching for jobs while you assume he’s at work.

5. Needing alone time

Things your husband might be afraid to tell you

Men are naturally almost always busy.

They always have one thing or the other, which keeps them occupied.

So, it may be pretty unusual for a woman who walked in on her husband just lounging and staring into space.

When she tries to engage him in a conversation, he may plead that he needs some time to himself.

If the woman doesn’t understand the concept of everyone needing some alone time from time to time, she might read another meaning into his actions.

She might feel he’s no longer interested in her and is looking for an excuse to be away from her.

But that’s not the case.

Having some alone time entails someone staying apart from everyone else to recharge, think things through, re-strategize, get some rest, and come back to face reality as the best and freshest version of themselves.

A man who knows his wife doesn’t understand it will be afraid to tell her he needs some time alone.

6. His fears and worries

Most men have been conditioned by Society to always be strong and show no weaknesses.

When these men grow and start their own families, they’re saddled with the responsibility of being the pillar of the family.

They’re expected to always be steady, strong, and stable and not show any signs of fear.

He sees having fears and worries as a sign of weakness and, as such, does not want to be perceived as weak.

Even when he’s worried sick about important things in his life, such as the future of his business, his health, finances, and other crucial matters, he keeps his concerns to himself instead of sharing them with his wife.

This is because he doesn’t want to appear weak in her presence.

7. His weaknesses

One of the things your husband might be afraid to tell you is his weaknesses.

Like I mentioned earlier, your husband knows you too well.

He might not want to share his weaknesses with you because you’re judgemental.

He doesn’t want you to judge him.

It might also be that he knows you’re the type who uses information against people, whether necessary or not.

So, he’ll be afraid to tell you about his weaknesses so you won’t use them against him.

8. Lack of sexual satisfaction

Things your husband might be afraid to tell you

Just this morning, I tuned in to a radio program, and a man was speaking.

He was talking about the things he doesn’t know how to discuss with his wife, and he mentioned sexual satisfaction.

He said that there was a time in their marriage when he used to experience a lack of sexual satisfaction.

According to him, his wife is neat and fit, so, the problem wasn’t necessarily because of hygiene.

He talked about her experiencing vaginal dryness, which made sex uncomfortable for her.

He noticed that most times, she didn’t enjoy sex and was only engaging in it as an obligation to her husband.

He loved her so much and didn’t want to put her through the pain any further.

So, he started avoiding having any sexual relations with her because seeing her in pain broke his heart, but he still was afraid to tell her.

He feared that she might misunderstand his intent and think that he no longer finds her attractive or even accuse him of cheating.

What he finally did was to start incorporating the natural treatments for vaginal dryness into their daily routine.

He made it look normal so as to not arouse her suspicion, and soon enough, that problem became past tense in their marriage.
