Life as a married woman is way different from that of a single lady.
In my opinion, except for the fact that a woman is at the center of it all, both worlds are almost parallel.
For a woman, being married comes with a lot of changes and responsibilities.
Most times, these changes and responsibilities can feel somewhat overwhelming, and the woman will feel like disappearing for some time to clear her head.
At those times, she’ll look back at her life when she was single and secretly miss it.
It doesn’t matter if her quality of life now as a married woman is better than that of when she was single.
If you are a married woman reading this article, you’ll agree with me on this.
There are certain things that she’ll miss about being single from time to time, and those are the things we’ll be discussing in this article.

6 Things Married Women Secretly Miss About Being Single
1. Their freedom

You might not realize until you get married that being single comes with a certain type of freedom and nonchalance.
One of the things married women secretly miss about being single is the freedom they enjoyed as singles.
Lowkey, at some point, every married woman misses it despite agreeing that they are blessed to have their family now.
I’m not implying that marriage is a cage for women.
Far from it!
As a single person, you were mostly free to do whatever you wanted at any time – go wherever you wanted, wear anything you felt like wearing, splurge on yourself, and have fun.
Most single people, especially the ladies, are mostly only responsible for themselves.
Even if they are taking care of someone, say their parents or siblings, they are not always primarily or solely responsible for them.
Singles can make last-minute plans and decisions.
Like, they have the ‘superpower’ to decide to sleep at a location, and wake up in another location.
But all of that changes for a woman when she gets married.
She may even have to start dressing more conservatively to fit into the ‘married woman’ picture.
She can’t even splurge on herself and have so much fun without any care in the world because now, she has responsibilities and dependents who are looking up to her.
Now, she splurges carefully (if there’s anything like that).
All her decisions and moves are more calculated now because whatever she does or decides will affect not just her, but some other people who she is now responsible for.
For instance, if she’s going to be traveling, she’ll have to draw up a plan and make provisions for their sustenance for the period she’ll be away.
2. Physical appearance

To so many women, their physical appearance matters.
However, it is one of the things that changes when a woman transitions from being single to being married.
Looking physically appealing is relative, and what one woman sees as her dream physical appearance may be what the next woman is praying against.
That is, while some women are in love with their slim stature and wouldn’t want to add weight, there are also women who love to be thick and wouldn’t want to be skinny for anything in the world.
So, another thing on the list of things married women secretly miss about being single is their physical appearance.
I’ll use myself as an instance.
When I was single, I was slim and could eat whatever I wanted at any time without the fear of adding extra weight.
I loved that I could fit comfortably in size eight and some size six dresses.
Now that I’m married, I don’t need to do too much for the scale to indicate extra kgs whenever I check my weight.
Size six and eight dresses are now in the past, as I’ve moved up to size ten and, sometimes, size twelve.
Low-key, whenever I see a dress I like and it comes in sizes smaller than my current body size, I miss being able to eat without adding weight.
I miss my flat stomach and not-so-slim physique.
But that doesn’t mean that I don’t feel more comfortable in my current size and stature because I feel like it gives me the befitting ‘married woman’ appearance.
I only miss my previous size and stature when the occasion calls for it.
3. Health status

Are we going to get started on the body changes that come with pregnancy and childbirth?
That’s a whole lot on its own.
I’m talking about the tremendous weight gain, hair loss, back and waist pain, sometimes affecting eyesight, urinary incontinence, occasional forgetfulness, or even loss of memory, and so on.
It’s a lot on women, honestly.
Now, it’s no longer only the physical appearance that’s affected but also the health status.
As a married woman who has children, you may find yourself going through these things, and it makes you feel sad.
You suddenly have to start dealing with a lot of health issues, bearing so much pain, taking medications, and switching to different new lifestyles just to manage the health conditions that come with pregnancy and childbirth.
All these stress on a woman’s health that comes because she got married and had children is enough to make any married woman secretly miss her single life.
4. No commitments

In line with point 4 above, one of the things married women miss about their single life is the fact that they had no commitments then.
They weren’t accountable for or answerable to anyone.
They were just cruising through life, taking things one step at a time.
They lived life at their own pace and took the day as it came.
Now that she’s married, she has to work twice as hard because there are extra mouths to feed.
She’s fully committed to not just her husband, but also to her children – a full family unit.
That’s a lot.
5. Sleep times

When I was single, I didn’t joke with my sleep times.
I enjoyed my sleep very much.
Back then, sleep was my place of comfort.
Whenever I had any challenges or encountered any difficulties, my first port of call was to sleep.
Then, when I wake up, I’ll be ready to face whatever the problem is.
Now, I barely have time for myself and talk more about sleeping for comfort.
As a married woman, I’ve learnt how to face problems and challenges head on, and get them over and done with it in no time.
When I haven’t or can’t get a problem fixed, I’ll remain restless till help comes.
I know that there are other women like me.
The fact that we no longer get to enjoy our sleep whenever we want is one of the things married women secretly miss about being single.
6. Not having to take care of anyone but themselves

As a married woman, one of the things you secretly miss about being single is not having to take care of anyone but yourself.
Now that you’re married, you have taken up the role of the mother hen in the family.
Even if you were used to being attended to all your life, the moment you get married and start having children, the mother-hen instinct kicks in.
When you were single, you didn’t have to worry about being the fixer always.
You had praying parents and caring siblings to fall back on whenever the going gets tough.
Now that you’re married, you’ll realize that you are or will soon be a parent.
You need to become the praying parent that your offspring need.
You must also start looking out for everyone else, just like you were looked out for when you were single.
In addition, it’s now your duty to make plans, draw up schedules, and make sure that everyone under your care sticks to it.
If they don’t, the consequences of defaulting will affect you, one way or the other.
While it can be scary, it’s your reality as a married woman.
