1. You trust each other

In my opinion, trust is the foundation of every strong and lasting relationship.

It’s a bridge that connects two hearts, and its strength contributes greatly to the success of any relationship.

Knowing that you have each other’s backs and can count on each other is a sufficient reason to continue putting in the work in your marriage, despite the occasional lows.

Believing in your partner and being confident in the fact that they have your best interests at heart shows that your marriage has a high chance of survival.

2. You still respect each other a lot

Respect gives room for love to grow and thrive in every relationship.

There is no doubt that arguments and disagreements will arise between couples.

However, if the respect between the couple remains constant, it makes a significant difference.

One of the signs that you’ve built a marriage worth fighting for is that you and your partner still hold each other in high regard, even during conflicts.

3. You have shared dreams and goals

Sharing dreams and goals is a crucial aspect of every successful marriage.

Picture this scenario: two people meet, fall in love, get married, and later realize they both want entirely different things in life.

Let’s say one of them wants to bear children first and have them grow until a certain age before they advance in their chosen business or career path.

On the other hand, the other person might not want to have children for the first five years of marriage.

Instead, they want to use that time to climb their career ladder and be stable and financially well-off before they start bringing children into the world to care for.

These two ambitions are parallel to each other.

Not only will it cause a lot of confusion and doubt in the marriage, but the heartache that comes with such a situation is unimaginable.

However, I’ve noticed that couples who have similar dreams and goals tend to stick with each other and have strong bonds.

Mind you, it’s not just about having similar ambitions. It’s about aligning these visions and working towards them together.

When you and your spouse are happily working towards achieving a common goal, it creates a mutual understanding and unity between both of you.

4. You never think of hurting each other intentionally during conflicts

It’s common for couples to get angry and fall out with each other when they experience a rough patch in their marriage.

Although emotions are high, it still doesn’t prompt any of them to intentionally hurt the other, either through words or actions.

That alone is enough proof of the level of respect and love that’s present in the relationship.

Not only does it demonstrate the strength of their bond, but it’s also a promise of their reconciliation and subsequent growth.

When you don’t think of hurting each other intentionally during conflicts, it’s one of the signs you’ve built a marriage worth fighting for.

5. You share emotional intimacy

The secret to a meaningful, lasting, and fulfilling marriage is emotional intimacy.

It is simply the feeling of being seen, heard, understood, accepted, and valued by your partner.

Every marriage that is worth fighting for has a good level of emotional intimacy in it.

If you can share your secrets, fears, and worries, as well as your happiness, good moments, achievements, and even embarrassing stories with your spouse without fear of being judged, it’s an indication that the emotional intimacy you share with them is solid.

6. You still care for each other genuinely

Have you noticed that you and your partner still care for each other genuinely through the misunderstandings and fights?

For instance, you’ll want to know if they’ve eaten anything for the day.

You might want to know if they’ve taken their medications if they’re not feeling well.

They can also lend you a helping hand if they see that you’re stuck with something that you can’t do by yourself.

All these are happening when you’re at loggerheads and probably not talking to each other.

The fact that you both remain concerned about each other’s well-being is a testament to the strong foundation and solid bond in your relationship, which should be protected at all costs.

It shows that the relationship was built on a foundation of commitment, understanding, and empathy.

You’ve truly built a marriage worth fighting for.

7. Genuine laughter is still present in the marriage

One of the signs you’ve built a marriage worth fighting for is the presence of genuine laughter between you and your spouse, despite all odds.

There are times when humor has saved our marriage.

Laughter is always the best medicine and has a way of easing the tension, lightening the mood, and reminding you of the reasons you fell in love with your partner in the first place.

The bond you share with your partner is truly strong if you can still share genuine laughter with them after all you’ve been through with them.

8. You’re both willing to make it work

Although marriage is not rocket science, it’s not exactly a walk in the park either.

There are days when you glance over at your partner and you smile hard and count yourself lucky for being able to have them all to yourself.

On some days, too, marriage feels like a battleground as a result of frustrations, misunderstandings, and disagreements.

If you’re both willing to come together and put in the work to make your marriage a success, that itself is a powerful sign that you’ve built a marriage worth fighting for.

It’s an indication of deep love, resilience, and commitment between you and your partner.

The marriage is important to both of you if you’re both ready and willing to put hands together and work towards surmounting the challenges in your marriage.

9. You make each other better

At the end of the day, the true purpose of marriage lies in the fact that the couple make each other better.

For instance, in my marriage, there are numerous instances where I’ve realized how much of a better person I’ve become because of my involvement with my spouse.

We’ve stood by each other through thick and thin, highs and lows, and now bring out the best in each other.

Does your spouse make you a better person?

Do you make your spouse a better person?

If your answer is in the affirmative, it’s a sign that you’ve built a marriage worth fighting for.
